Dead By Daylight – Best Ghostface Build To Climb Ranks

Welcome to our Ghostface build for Dead by Daylight. Our Ghostface build is optimized to make you climb up to rank one as fast as possible. I’ve created a brand new alt account for this build and experimented with most killer perks until I found the perfect fit and then grinded my way to rank one. Our Ghostface build allows and encourages you to play very aggressively early game. It might require some practice until you learn how to play my build perfectly. But with my tips and tricks in this article, you should get there in no time!

Ghostface Build Pros & Cons

  • + Allows you to play very aggressive early game because of Corrupt Intervention perk and forces all survivors to move closer to repair generators but might punish you if you prefer a more laid back or generator camping playstyle.
  • + Ghostface’s power ability Night Shroud gains you the undetectable status effect. This is used to sneak up on survivors or expose them. Works really well at the beginning of any game.
  • – Requires “ok” map knowledge. If you are a new player, we recommend trying one of our easier builds, such as Leatherface Beginner Build.

Required Killers for the best Ghostface build

We’ve tried optimizing our Ghostface build, so you don’t need to lvl up that many killers. However, some perks are a must-have, and you should unlock them before you start playing our build.

  • Leatherface LVL 35 for Barbecue & Chilli, we recommend that you push his lvl to 40 so you can unlock Franklin’s Demise, which will be used in our second loadout against premade survivors.
  • The Hag LVL 35 for Hex: Ruin.
  • The Plague LVL 35 for Corrupt Intervention and Infectious Fright
  • Hillbilly LVL 35 for Lightborn (Optional but very recommended. You need either Lightborn or Franklin’s demise for our second perk setup)

Main Perk Setup

Our main build for Ghostface, and you should play with this build most of your games. We will specify later on when you should run other perks. But your primary focus should be to get these perks at the highest quality as soon as possible.

Corrupt Intervention, Hex: Ruin, Barbecue & Chili and Infectious Fright.

Secondary Perk Setup

The only time you should swap to the secondary perk setup is when you are up against a premade team of survivors or if most of them are running flashlights. Then we swap out Infectious Fright for Lightborn or Franklin’s Demise.

Best Addons for our Ghostface Build

Addons are not required for our Ghostface build but gives us a huge advantage. While you are spending bloodpoints, you might as well focus on obtaining these addons.

Drop-Leg Knife Sheath + Chewed Pen
Increases Ghostface’s movement speed while crouched and increases Night Shroud’s recovery rate. It works perfectly when sneaking up on survivors that are busy repairing generators or healing one another.

Outdoor Security Camera + Night Vision Monocular
We are running Corrupt Intervention, which gives us a window of 2-minutes at the trial’s start. With these addons you can successfully hunt down survivors, and Outdoor Security Camera is basically a Barbecue & Chili, except you don’t need to hook a survivor. Night Vision Monocular makes a survivor become exposed much faster when you’re not leaning from cover. Most of the time, you won’t be leaning from cover because you are easily detectable.

Preferred Maps for Ghostface

Unlike most killers in Dead by Daylight. Ghostface and our build work really well for close-quartered maps such as Léry’s Memorial Institute and Hawkins National Laboratory. As well as bigger maps like Red Forest and Grave of Glenvale. If you have lots of maps offering on Ghostface, you can activate any you like! I personally prefer bigger maps, but it’s really no different than playing on close-quartered maps.

How to play our Ghostface Build

Early Game

Time to hunt! We’re running Corrupt Intervention, which blocks three generators that are furthest away from us. When the game begins, look around and avoid going to the three generators far away from you. The survivors can’t repair them!

Use your power ability, Night Shroud, which gains you the undetectable status effect. Survivors can’t hear your terror radius, and it’s the perfect opportunity to sneak up on survivors and stalk them.

If you find a survivor and they haven’t seen you. Stalk them until they become exposed. If you are running our recommended addons Outdoor Security Camera + Night Vision Monocular, you will expose them faster. You can see other survivors outside of your terror radius.

Hook the downed survivor and move on quickly to the location of the next survivor (if you have outdoor security camera equipped.) If not. Start patrolling nearby generators.

A tactic used by high ranked killers is to pick three generators close to each other and don’t let the survivors repair any of those three. This tactic is referred to as the “3 generator camp” and will benefit you in the late game, and I will detail it in a little bit!

Mid Game

Now the effect of Corrupt Intervention has expired, and the survivors can repair any generator on the map. At this point, you want to patrol generators and start chasing any survivors that you see. You shouldn’t worry about letting the survivors repair a generator or two. It happens!

Late Game

At the end of the trial, you’ve either killed most of the survivors, or they’ve repaired most of the generators. If more than 2 generators are left, you can patrol around the map and look for scratch marks caused by the survivors running around the map. Or move towards any rushed action that the survivors make. You will get a loud sound and an icon pointing towards the direction. Just follow it and initiate a chase.

Remember the “3 generator camp” I mentioned in the early game? If you’ve picked three generators at the beginning of the trial. Patrol around them and initiate survivors that are trying to repair them! They have two choices: repair the generator(s) and risk getting hooked by you or finding a key and escape through the hatch. And we all know that the latter option is most likely not going to happen!

Camping generators at the end of the trial isn’t really foul play. You are, after all, the killer, and it’s up to the survivors to figure out a way to repair the last generator!

Ghostface Tips & Tricks

  • Generally speaking, you only want to use Night Shroud when there’s an opportunity to expose or sneak attack a survivor. If a survivor is looking at you, they’ll reveal Ghostface very fast!
  • While using Night Shroud. Any survivor nearby can hear Ghostface’s clothes moving. It’s much quieter than the terror radius but can still be heard!
  • Ghostface has a unique perk called “I’m All Ears” It’s pretty good for other killers, so we highly recommend you try to unlock it!
  • If you’re not using any addons, it takes much longer to expose survivors when you’re not leaning from an object.
  • Ghostface lacks mobility, and therefore you want to end chases if you are not downing a survivor in a minute of chasing them.
  • As Ghostface, you can expose several survivors at the same time!

We hope you enjoy playing our best Ghostface build for Dead by Daylight! Ghostface is not a very popular killer at the higher ranks but still very viable at any rank. Learning how to manage night shroud is the most important aspect of playing Ghostface. It takes some practice, but you are in for an enjoyable time!

If you have any questions regarding our Ghostface build. Feel free to get in touch with us on Discord or Twitter. Happy stalking!

The Ghost Face is a creepy Killer, able to stalk his victims and sneak up silently using his Power, Night Shroud. Affected Survivors will find themselves vulnerable and oblivious to his presence and must use all of their perception and awareness to protect themselves from his approach.

His personal Perks, I'm All EarsIconPerks imAllEars.png, Thrilling TremorsIconPerks thrillingTremors.png, and Furtive ChaseIconPerks furtiveChase.png, give him the ability to locate Survivors, defend Generators, and make his Chases unpredictable.

Danny Johnson, known as Jed Olsen by some, grabbed the newspaper from the kitchen counter: it was a week old, but his face was on the front page, grainy and sunken. It was one of those muggy afternoons in Florida when heat and humidity permeated everything in the kitchen, making him sweat while standing still. He slouched in a damp chair to read. This article had better be good—his work in Roseville had been outstanding.

GF Lore1.jpg

At first glance, Jed Olsen was a modest and enthusiastic freelancer with experience in a variety of small newspapers. The staff at the Roseville Gazette appreciated how easy-going and honest he seemed, and so he was treated as a stranger for no more than five minutes into his interview:

"Jed quickly spotted the editor-in-chief in the room, gave him a wide smile and a firm handshake, and talked about good old American values. And that was it, he was in." —Ex-Contributor at the Roseville Gazette

Olsen never justified his erratic career path, which zigzagged between several small towns from Utah to Pennsylvania. There was no verification of his previous jobs. He had a decent portfolio plus a good attitude, and they needed a contributor right away.

Olsen had been working at the newspaper for five months when the Roseville Murders began: victims from young to old, stabbed to death in their homes. From the reports, the victims seemed chosen at random, yet the killer knew his way around in the houses. The multiple stab wounds indicated a personal motive. No traces of DNA were found. The local police were confounded: the murders were carried with fury akin to a crime of passion yet coldly premeditated.

The murderer also liked to stalk his targets. Two victims had reported being followed on their way home by a dark figure, a few days prior their death. The killer would follow them from Walleyes, a small bar in Northern Roseville, and snap pictures of them at home, while looking for a way in. He could watch the same victim for weeks, meticulously registering their habits and routines. When he felt the urge to kill, he'd visit the most vulnerable victim on his list, and break inside the house quietly.

The whole staff worked on the Roseville Murders story. Olsen was often sent to interview the family of victims and relay official statements from the police. Unknown to everyone at the time, his involvement added to the final body count.

GF Lore2.jpg

Panic swelled in Roseville when Olsen produced footage of a hooded figure breaking into a house at night. The masked face, a white blur in the dark, stared at the camera for a second, before disappearing inside. “The Ghost Face Caught on Tape” was the resulting article, written by Olsen. He seemed proud of his work at the time, enjoying how the whole town feared his ghost stories.

Weeks later, Olsen left a note on his work desk and disappeared:

"I hope you liked my stories--I enjoyed bringing them to life. Don't worry, I'm not done." –Jed Olsen

The Roseville law enforcement still refuses to comment as Jed Olsen remains at large.

Danny smiled, ripping out the article from the newspaper. When the investigation had been pointing to him, he’d packed his bags and left Roseville swiftly.

He got up, the clammy seat pulling his skin. An oppressive humidity engulfed him as he entered the bedroom. Condensation dribbled on a small misted-up window as bits of cracked wallpaper hung limply. Its floral pattern was covered with gruesome photos and newspaper headlines. Danny pinned the week-old article on top of a picture of lacerated scalps. A faint pang of hunger hit him, and he wondered when he had eaten last. Was it this morning, while washing his knife and clothes? Or was it last night, after following that girl down the street? He couldn't remember clearly.

Taking a step back, he admired his work on the wall. His mind drifted, remembering all the articles he’d written, the stories he’d planned, and the scenes he’d brought to life.

A shiver ran through him. A chilling breeze transformed the bedroom's humidity into an opaque, freezing Fog. A woman shrieked. Dead leaves crunched under his feet. He smiled in anticipation.

  • Buff: increased the base Killer Instinct duration from 1.5 seconds to 2 seconds.
  • Nerf: increased the Detection Area in the centre of a Survivor's screen, who is attempting to reveal The Ghost Face by +4 % for either side (combined 8 %).

  • Quality of Life: increased the contrast of the Stalking Meter on the HUD.

Patch 5.3.0

  • The Ghost Face was leaked in the 2.7.0 Mid-Chapter Update.
Instead of releasing the Patch, the Developers accidentally released an internal Developer Build, which already contained the upcoming Chapter.
    • As soon as they realised this had happened, they forced all Players out of the regular Game and those on the Dev Build were forced to instead download the actual Mid-Chapter build.
    • However, multiple screen-shots had already been taken and released, as well as video content of Streamers who had played on the Dev Build.
  • Dead by Daylight'sThe Ghost Face is not one of the many killers who take on the alias from the Scream films, but rather an original character based on the mask the franchise used.
    • This is possible due to the fact that the copyrights for the mask and the films are entirely separate due to the films having used a general purpose mask for their killers.
    • Nevertheless, the way The Ghost Face wipes the blood off his weapon is quite similar to the way the original Ghostface does in the Scream franchise.
  • The Ghost Face was the first Chapter Killer to come without an accompanying Survivor or Map.
  • The Ghost Face was the first licensed Killer to have access to a selection of Customisation options in the StoreIconHelp store.png.
  • The Ghost Face was the seventh Killer added to Dead by Daylight wearing a mask.
  • Instead of climbing over vaults, The Ghost Face hoists himself through them.
  • The Ghost Face was the first Killer to have a unique running animation when in a Chase.

One of the most interesting and competitive online experiences, Dead by Daylightpits 4 survivors against one player-controlled killer. With a huge roster of both Survivors and Killers, fans of the game are spoiled for choice in regards to their options within Dead by Daylight. From the Hillbilly to the Demogorgon players can choose a variety of interesting and unique Killers to play with based upon their preferred style of play. The gameplay of Dead by Daylight is relatively simple, survive the onslaught of the Killer while completing various objectives throughout the map, while the killer's primary objective is to kill the survivors as quickly as possible. This creates one of the most addictingly intense matches in any competitive game on the market.

Related: Dead By Daylight Killer Guide: Michael Myers

With a roster as diverse as Dead by Daylight's, the intense online experience is a love letter to the horror genre as a whole. With a variety of iconic Killers and Survivors to choose from players are spoiled for choice. However, one of the most interesting options to choose from is the iconic Killer Ghostface from the Screamseries. Ghostface provides players one of the most interesting playstyles in the entire game. Providing his player with an interesting ability that encourages long set-up in exchange for high damaging rewards. Ghostface is not only a visually interesting character but one of the most deadly in the right person's hands.

How to Play Ghostface Effectively in Dead by Daylight

Ghostface has a very similar playstyle to the popular Micael Meyers killer. Forcing players to take extended periods of time to set up his powerful ability in order to quickly dispatch Survivors.

The first and most important part of Ghostface's arsenal of abilities is his powerful Night Shroud ability. This mirrors Michael Meyer's stalking ability, in the Ghostface's Night Shroud is also a stalking ability. Slowing his walk speed in order to increase the circular gauge above a Survivor's person. When Ghostface completes this gauge he gains the ability to instantly down a Survivor's whose gauge is filled through the Night Shroud ability. Making the reward for completing this gauge extremely valuable for quickly hooking Survivors. Be aware, that if Ghostface attempts an attack and misses, his Night Shroud progress will be completely lost. So utilize this ability during chases against Survivors, and slowly fill up Night Shade gauges. After filling up several Night Shroud gauges, take your time and slowly pick off the Survivors, that way you can efficiently pick off several Survivors in a few encounters.

Secondly, Ghostface has the ability to crouch, allowing him to hide from suspicious Survivors. Use the ability to quickly avoid a Survivor's line of sight, to set up for a Night Shroud attack. Or to stealthily complete a given Survivor's Night Shroud gauge. A successful Ghostface player will be able to utilize his crouching ability to the fullest.
