TBC Classic Mining Profession and Leveling 1-375 Guide

Mining is one of the few gathering professions available to players. This profession focuses on collecting ore, rather than crafting items or consumables for use. This gathered ore is most commonly smelted into bars and used by Engineering and Blacksmithing to fuel their crafting needs; but the raw ore may also be of use to a Jewelcrafter.

Mining ore veins first requires you to have a Mining Pick IconMining Pick. Mineral veins will take multiple hits to fully empty, with anywhere from 1-2 successful harvests all the way up to 8. Make sure you fully clear out the mineral vein to get the maximum amount of materials possible.

While focusing on gathering ore, it is highly recommended to use a movement speed increase, such as Crusader Aura IconCrusader Aura or Riding Crop IconRiding Crop. This will help greatly with the amount of materials you can gather in a session as the movement speed lets you move from vein to vein much faster over the course of a long farming session.

You may also find that Mining can be used to complement your goldmaking in TBC Classic. For more information on this among other methods involving alternative professions, please see our separate guide on the topic:

When Mining is learned as a profession, you will also learn a skill called Find Minerals IconFind Minerals that will show nearby mineral nodes as a golden point on your minimap. This allows you to see ore in hidden areas or off-screen so you can gather any nearby ore.

When you approach a mineral vein, you can interact with it to try and mine the ore. However, you cannot gather all ore from the start; you will see different colors representing how hard is it for you to gather that certain ore. These colors represent the skill level needed to gather the ore and are the following:

  • Red means that vein needs a higher skill level than you currently have and you cannot mine it yet.
  • Orange means you can mine this vein, but your attempts may fail. Every first successful attempt on the vein is guaranteed to increase your Mining skill.
  • Yellow means you can normally mine this vein, your attempts may occasionally fail, and most successful attempts increase your Mining skill.
  • Green means you can easily mine this vein, your attempts will rarely fail, and you will rarely increase your Mining skill by mining these.
  • Gray means you can mine this vein with no effort, your attempts will never fail, and they will never increase your Mining skill.

When you learn Mining from the trainers, apart from the very useful Find Minerals IconFind Minerals you will also learn a technique called Smelting IconSmelting. It is a skill Miners can use when they are near a Forge to smelt the minerals into usable metal bars for crafting. The good part is that smelting minerals also increases your skill in Mining too and it can be used to level your Mining quickly without having to seek out veins of ore if you are willing to buy the materials.

The skill levels you will need to train at are:

  • Apprentice Level can be learned when first picking up the profession, starts from a skill level of 1, and goes up to 75. It also requires your character to be Level 5.
  • Journeyman Level can be learned when you reach a skill level of 50 and goes up to 150. It also requires your character to be Level 10.
  • Expert Level can be learned when you reach a skill level of 125 and goes up to 225. It also requires your character to be Level 20.
  • Artisan Level can be learned when you reach a skill level of 200 and goes up to 300. It also requires your character to be Level 35.
  • Master Level can be learned when you reach a skill level of 275 and goes up to 375. It the highest Profession Level and also requires your character to be Level 55.

You can learn Mining from any Mining trainer, which are found in capital cities. When you arrive at a major city you can ask any city guard for directions, and pick the Mining trainer option under the professions section. This will mark their location on your map, allowing you to easily find them and get the Mining skill.

To learn Mining past 300 skill level, you must travel to Outland and talk with a master Miner. Alliance and Horde players can find their respective trainers at:

  • [A] Alliance IconHurnak Grimmord at Honor Hold in Hellfire Peninsula, around coordinates (56,64).
  • [H] Horde IconKrugosh at Thrallmar in Hellfire Peninsula, around coordinates (55,37).

Leveling Mining (1 to 300)

5.3.

Leveling Route (1-300)

1-65

Your Mining advancement begins by mining Copper Ore IconCopper Ore found in the low-level starting areas. Once you have reached 50 skill in Mining, head to your local trainer to learn Journeyman Mining, allowing you to progress up to 150 Skill.

65-125

After training Journeyman Mining head out to either Hillsbrad Foothills, Redridge Mountains, The Barrens, Loch Modan, or Darkshore and look for these veins for skill-ups all the way to 125:

  • 65-100 — Copper Ore IconCopper Ore
  • 65-125 — Tin Ore IconTin Ore
  • 75-125 — Silver Ore IconSilver Ore

125-175

Make sure to visit your nearest trainer and learn Expert Mining. You will be gathering plenty of these ores as this is typically one of the tougher spots in Mining progression as you only have one main ore to gain skill-ups from. Set up nice circular routes in Arathi Highlands, Desolace, and Thousand Needles to cover as much ground as possible and keep your eyes peeled for:

  • 125-175 — Iron Ore IconIron Ore
  • 155-175 — Gold Ore IconGold Ore

175-225

At 175 Skill we obtain the ability to mine Mithril, giving us access to a very popular mineral. If you previously were in Arathi Highlands, you can continue to mine there as there is a large mixture of your needed ores. If not, you will want to make your way there, to Hinterlands, or Tanaris.

  • 175-225 — Mithril Ore IconMithril Ore

225-245

At 225 Skill, make sure to visit your nearest Mining trainer and learn Artisan Mining. After that continue your previous mining route until you reach 245.

245-300

At 245 Skill we gain the ability to mine Small Thorium Veins and at 275 we can access the Rich Thorium Veins, giving us the ability to quick gather all ore in the area and reach Skill Level 300. We recommend that you head into Un'Goro Crater, Blasted Lands, Felwood, or Silithus and gather any mineral veins that may grant you a skill-up.

  • 245-300 Thorium Ore IconThorium Ore

Leveling Mining (300 - 375)

6.3.

Leveling Route (300-375)

300-325

Here we will be looking to farm some Fel Iron Ore IconFel Iron Ore in Hellfire Peninsula. Run along the mountain edges looking for any veins you can find on your minimap.

325-350

For these next 25 skill-ups we will head into Zangarmarsh and search along the outer edges of the map. Here we will find a mixture of Fel Iron Ore IconFel Iron Ore and Adamantite Ore IconAdamantite Ore, both offering us skill-ups.

350-375

The last few skill-ups we recommend heading into Nagrand as we will see an increased number of nodes, both rich and regular, in the area. You can also choose to stay in your current area as Mining is very simple to train in any of the zones Outland has to offer.

Sours: https://www.icy-veins.com/tbc-classic/mining-profession-and-leveling-1-375-guide

This TBC Mining guide will show you the fastest and easiest way to level your Mining skill from 1 to 375.

Materials Required

Mining skill (obviously). Go see your local mining trainer to get trained.
A mining pick. Can’t mine without one (these can also be enchanted if you want, makes absolutely no difference, but it’s cool to have. Even if you have your mining pick enchanted the standard mining animation remains the same, so you actually see that nice demonslaying glow you got put on there. You will only see the glow when you equip it like a normal weapon. A player on our server even had a Crusader enchant put on their mining pick and told me that the proc happens when they mine, cant confirm this for sure, but it does seem really pointless).

Optional, but recommended extra: get the cheapest pair of gloves you can find and get them enchanted with +5 mining skill (shouldn’t cost you more than 2g, as it takes 3 x Truesilver Bars and 3 x Vision Dust). Don’t bother with the +2 enchant as it’s not worth it.
If you’re an engineer then make yourself a Goblin Mining Helmet as this will add +5 to your mining skill.

Also, please remember that mining nodes only appear on the side of hills, cliffs, mountains etc. So your unlikely to find any ores in the great rolling plains, unless there is a small hill there. Also note that Darnassus has NO ore whatsoever! So if you’re a Night Elf and want to mine, get your booty over to Darkshore ASAP. So with that in mind, always follow the cliff faces or hillsides.

Mining 1 to 65

Mining Copper

Estimated number of nodes to mine = 30

This bit is easy. Mine about 50 copper and smelt. You can use any of the following suggestions for mining routes or make up your own, as copper is so abundant:

*At level 50, go back to the mining trainer and learn Journeyman Mining.

Horde

· Undead: Start at the entrance to Deathknell, looking out towards Brill. Head South and follow the cliffs all the way round to The Undercity. Skip past UC and keep following the cliffs up to The Bulwark. Now head North up to Scarlet Monastery, hugging the cliffs as you go. When to reach the coast, head west and then south to follow the cliffs down and round to Agamand Mills. Follow those hills south again to get back to your starting point. Average amount of copper ore from this run, should be about 30-40.

· Tauren: Mulgore. The natural geography of this place makes it easy to run around. Just pick a starting point and follow the cliffs all the way around in a circle. Remember to check out the Venture Co mine on your way round. Average amount of copper ore from this run, should be about 40-50.

· Orc & Troll: You could just do whole circuits of Durotar, but there is so much copper round here that small routes are just as productive. My favorite routes are:

· Start at the gates of Orgrimmar and head East towards Skull Rock (make sure you go into Skull Rock and mine the ore there too). Head a short way south to where that Orc is standing on his lonesome, then head back West following the cliff face (keeping the Zep Tower in sight). Carry on over the road and across the top of the canyon and on to the coast. Head North up to the cliff face and then East back to Orgrimmar. I get about 30-40 copper ores from this short run on a good day.

· Start at Razor Hill and head West towards the Quilboar grounds. Hug the cliff face until you reach the river, then head north until you reach Orgrimmar. Head East until you see the first little farmstead, now head south and drop into the canyon. Follow the canyon out and head South East until you reach Razor Hill again. You’ll get about 25-30 copper ores on this route.

Alliance

· Human: Start at Goldshire and head East following the cliff face to the north of Crystal Lake. When you get the north of the Logging Camp head South. Follow the river to the border of Elwyn forest and Duskwood, then head North West back towards Goldshire (make sure you visit the two mines on this route). This route should net you about 30-40 copper ores.

· Night Elves: Your going to have to go to Darkshore, as Darnassus has no ores whatsoever! So start at Auberdine and head directly east until you reach the cliffs at the edge of the map. Now head south, hugging the cliff face as you go. When you get to the entrance of Ashenvale, head west to the coast and then North back to Auberdine. Head out from Auberdine, directly to the East (same as you did at the start of this route), but when you reach the cliffs this time head north. Just follow the cliffs to the North and back round the coast, heading South again to Auberdine. I find this figure of eight pattern to be easier than taking Auberdine in one whole route, but that’s just me. Feel free to improvise it. Normally get about 40-50 copper ores from this entire route.

· Dwarves and Gnomes: Ah, the home of mining and possibly the best place to start, Dun Morogh! You really don’t need a route around here, copper is everywhere, if you can’t find a decent route yourself, then you’re beyond help! But, I will tell you my favourite route. Start at Kharanos and head to the Wendigo cave (you all know where that is, right?). Clear cave and then continue on West, following the cliff face. Carry on until you hit the main road then head North up to the Frostmane Hold. From there head directly east over to Shimmer Ridge, then North up to Ice Flow Lake. Now follow the cliffs down to Ironforge, on to Misty Pine Refuge and back round to Kharanos. This run normally nets me about 40-50 copper ore.

· Another good run in this area is the Gol’Bolar Quarry. Circle the outside, around the top, then drop down and into the mines. I can get about 20 copper ores on this short run.

Mining 66 – 125

Mining Tin, Silver, Incendicite and Lesser Bloodstone

Estimated number of nodes to mine = 60

This part is a pain in the butt, if you don’t have a mount (well its all a pain in the butt, if you don’t have a mount) as the Tin Veins your going to need to mine are more spread out and not as common as the Copper you just being mining. You also stop getting skill up’s from smelting after about level 85 (Silver is the last thing to give you a skill up). The leg from 100-125 is also pretty bad, as Tin is green at this stage and therefore your getting skill ups at fewer intervals (just pray its a Silver spawn, instead of Tin, as this will still be yellow to you).

Horde & Alliance i*even on PvP servers you can still use these routes and areas.

Easiest way to level up to 125, is to go to The Wetlands and find Thelgan Rock (its near the entrance to Dun Algaz – 53,64 for those with location addons). There is a cave there, that is full of spiders and a quest ore called Incendicite. This is an Alliance only quest, but Horde can still mine the ore. Now the ore itself is worthless and only used to complete the quest, but you can mine it from level 65 until about level 125. The nodes respawn quickly and you can level up your mining in less than an hour if your the only one in the cave.
If your Alliance and want to do the quest, go see Pilot Longbeard in The Miltary Ward in Ironforge for the starting quest. He’ll send you to speak to Pilot Stonegear in Kharanos, who then gives you the quest.
Thankyou to everyone who suggested this, especially Plog

Lesser Bloodstone: go to the cave in north east Arathi Highlands, just to the east of Hammerfall (path to cave is at 80,40) and mine the nodes inside. It’s used as part of a quest chain that’s started in Booty Bay by Corporal Kaleb (in the tavern). You only need to keep four of them for the quest.
Thanks to Garleth for this one

I actually combine two of my routes here, if I have time. They are as follows:

· Start at The Crossroads and head West towards the entrance of Stonetalon Mountains. Then head south, hugging the cliffs as you go. Follow the cliffs all the way down south until you reach Blackthorn Ridge, just north of Razorfen Kraul. Follow the cliff to the main road and over. Continue heading east and then north up to the entrance to Dustwallow Marsh. Carry on going north until you reach Northwatch Hold and then head up to the Raptor Hills and the Quilboar Village. Now head back to The Crossroads.

· Start at the bottom of the Great Lift in Thousand Needles and head northwest up to Camp Ethok, following the cliff face as you go. Continue on till you reach the border of Thousand Needles and Feralas, then head over to the other side of Thousand Needles and follow the cliffs south. Make a detour when you reach Highperch, as there are a couple of Tin / Iron veins here. Carry on heading south until you reach The Screeching Canyon. Have a quick run into the cave here and pick the couple veins that normally spawn here. Continue south past Freewind Post and all the way to Windbreak Canyon. Now head north, again hugging the cliff face as you go and make your way up to Splithoof Crag. There is a Centaur Village here, with a cave that can have 4 or 5 veins (both Iron and Tin). Mine it. Carry on north past Darkcloud Pinnacle and back to the Great Lift.

Combine the two routes above for a 90-minute (ish) trek that can net 100+ copper, 50-70 Tin and 30-40 Iron.

There only two other places that I bother mining for Tin and that is:

· Hillsbrad Foothills: No route here, just do full circuits.

· Ashenvale: Again no real route, just do full circuits.

But you could also try the following places:

· Wetlands: Start at Dun Modr and follow the cliffs to the southeast down towards Raptor Ridge. From here either go around Grim Batol, if you’re a high enough level to cope, or follow the cliffs towards Mosshide Fen and onto The Igan Rock. Once there head over to Dun Algaz, then north to Angerfang Encampment and onto Whelgars Excavation Site. Now head north past Ironbeards Tomb and back to Dun Modr.

· Redridge Mountains: Start in Lakeshire, head north to Rethban Caverns and follow up to Renders Camp. Head south and follow cliffs to Alther’s Mill. Carry on east towards The Tower of Ilgalar and then loop round that and to the south, heading towards Renders Valley. Carry on to Lakeridge Highway and over to The Three Corners. Now head back to Lakeshire.

Mining 126 – 175

Mining Iron and Gold

Estimated number of nodes to mine = 100

*At level 125, go back to the mining trainer and learn Expert Mining.

From now on both Horde and Alliance can follow this guide easily, so I’ll won’t have separate sections.

· Do the Thousand Needle route above, but take in The Shimmering Flats as well this time.

· Desolace: If you’re Horde, start at Shadowprey Village and head into the Valley of Spears. Follow that through and out and over to the Kodo Graveyard (you could do a quick circle or move on here). Head east to the Magram Village and loop round and down to Shadowbreak Ravine. Follow that through and onto the Mannoroc Coven to the west. Carry on west to the Gelkis Village and make your way back to Shadowprey Village. If you’re Alliance, then start at Nijel’s Point and head southeast to Sargeron, then south to the Kolkar Village. From here you could carry on down south and complete the Horde run or head west to the Kodo Graveyard. From the Kodo Graveyard, head northwest to Ethel Rethor and then northeast ish to Thunderaxe Fortress. Follow round to the north and up to Tethris Aran and then back east to Nijel’s Point.

· Ashenvale: start at the entrance to Ashenvale from The Barrens and head to the west. Skip round the Battleground entrance (only if your Horde) and carry on to the river. Follow the river north, trying to keep as close to bank as possible, so that you can see spawns on both sides of the river. Keep following the river till you get to just before Xavian in the north. Now head east to the next river and cross over to Saytrnaar and onto Forest Song (watch out for those elites). Now head south through the Warsong Logging Camp if your Horde or skirt around it if your Alliance and continue on down through Felfire Hill and onto Demon Fall Canyon. Now head west through Nightsong Woods and back to your start point.

· Badlands: start at Apocryphens Rest and head south to Camp Cagg, then east to Mirage Flats. Now follow cliff face all way to Camp Boff, past Agmonds End. Head north past Dustwind Gulch and onto Hammertoes Digsite and then northwest to Angor Fortress. Now follow the cliffs west all the way to Kargath (or just before it, if Alliance) and back down to Apocryphens Rest. Remember to divert off slightly at each point where the Rock Elementals gather and do a quick tour of their spawn spots.

· Arathi Highlands: start at Thandoll Span and head east then north to Boulderfist Hall. Follow cliffs round to Witherbark Village and continue north up to Hammerfall. If you’re Horde, loop round the back of Hammerfall and continue on to the west. If your Alliance, go as far Drywhisker Gorge (remember to check inside, both Horde and Alliance) and then loop round Hammerfall to the south and back up to the northern cliffs. Follow cliffs west to Dabyries Farmstead and then head south past Refuge Point and back down to Thandoll Span.

· Alterac Mountains: start at the entrance to the Ruins of Alterac and head west past the Growless Cave. Follow the ridge around the ruins and keep going to the end. Now drop down to the coast (you can make a series of jumps to get down, without dying). Now head north to Dandreds Fold. Head east through The Uplands, zigzagging between the two cliff faces as you go until you get to Strahnbrad. Now follow the road back to your starting point. If you’re a high enough level, go into the ruins and do a quick sweep.

· Stranglethorn Vale: couple of small but good routes here. First one is to the north of Grom’Gol Base Camp. Start at Nessingwarys Expedition and follow the hills around the front of the three sets of ruins (Kalai, Balal and Zuuldaia) and then back round to the north of them and return to Nessingwarys Expedition. Second route starts at Kurzens Compound to the north of Zul’Gurub entrance. After a quick circle around the compound, head south down to Mosh’Ogg Ogre Mound. If you’re a high level, then do a sweep of the cave and carry on south to the Ruins of Zulmamwe. Keep heading south past the Crystalvein Mine and the Ruins of Aboraz. Carry on into the Mistvale Valley, now heading west towards the main road. From here either head to Booty Bay or follow the road back up north to your starting point.

· Swamp of Sorrows: couple of nice little spots here. Check around Ithariuss Cave where the Green Whelps are and also around The Stagalbog. Remember to check inside the Stagalbog.

Mining 176 – 250

Mining Mithril and Truesilver

Estimated number of nodes to mine = 125

*At level 225, go back to the mining trainer and learn Artisan Mining.

So now we come the real money making stuff, Mithril. This stuff is used in such quantities by Engineering and Blacksmithing that you will always sell what you mine for a good profit.

· Blasted Lands: just do full circuits, simple.

· Searing Gorge: again, just do full circuits. You can do what I do and do a full circuit of the perimeter of Searing Gorge, then drop down into The Cauldron and do a circuit of that (inside and outside). Also remember that at level 230, you can mine Dark Iron, so pick that up too.

· Badlands: two good places here. First is Camp Cagg. Just do a circuit round it, taking in the Rock Elementals spawn point as you go. Second place is Lethlor Ravine. If you start by the Master Dragonscale Leatherworker and head into the Ravine and loop round to the north and back out and south past Uldaman back entrance, then you’ll pick up a good amount of Mithril.

· The Hinterlands: start at Aerie Peak and follow the cliff face to the south and east. Now just go around the south cliff face until your get past Jintha’Alor, then north up to Seradane and then west back to Aerie Peak.

· Western Plaguelands: do circuits of the Ruins of Andorhal.

· Azshara: start at the Legash Encampment and head east to the Bitter Reaches. Loop round to the north and back west along the coast past the Jagged Reef and then back down to the Lagash Encampment again.

· Winterspring: start at the Timbermaw tunnel entrance and follow the cliffs to the east past the Hot Springs and all the way over to Starfall Village. Just before you get there, head south to Lake Kel’Theril and then follow the cliffs west all the way back to your starting point.

· Felwood: only if your there. Don’t go out of way to mine here, but if you happen to be in the area (i.e. grinding Timbermaw rep) then look out for a few Mithril nodes here.

· Stonetalon Mountains: quick circuit of The Charred Vale can net you 10-15 Mithril ores.

· Desolace: grab yourself some underwater breathing potions and head to Ranzajar Isle. Theres a good number of Mithril nodes in the sunken ruins round here and very few people mine them. You can also take a run through the Valley of Spears and down to Mannoroc Coven to pick up the Mithril nodes there.

· Tanaris: bit of a long one this, but can be well worth it. Do full circuits of Tanaris, but drop down into The Noxious Lair and The Gaping Chasm to pick up the nodes that virtually nobody mines, unless they are questing in there.

Mining 251 – 300

Mining Thorium

Estimated number of nodes to mine = 160

This is the reason you took up mining, Thorium. What a moneymaker. Your also looking to get Arcane Crystal from the rich veins, which will sell for about 20g each (depends on your server).

· Un’goro Crater: just go round and round the crater, making sure you drop down into The Slithering Scar and take a detour into Fire Plume Ridge. There is loads of Thorium to be had here, which is why its farmed constantly, so you will be competing for nodes here.

· Azshara: start at the Ravencrest Monument and follow the coastal cliff all the way round to the Tower of Eldra. Then head back west to the Legash Encampment in a zigzag pattern from coast to coast. You may also want to drop into the Ruins of Eldarath and pick up the couple of nodes that spawn there. Azshara isn’t the greatest place to mine Thorium, due to its natural geography, but that does mean its less popular and therefore your likely to have less competition.

· Winterspring: start at Everlook and head south to the Ice Thistle Hills. Make a quick sweep of the yeti cave here and then back out and to the south. Keep going till you get to Owl Wing Thicket and make a small circuit there. Now you can either carry on south into Frostwhisper and Darkwhisper Gorge’s if your happy about avoiding the elites there, or you can head west over to Mazthoril for the slightly lower level elite area. Once at Mazthoril, you can either sweep the main cave (only recommended for Druids, Rogues or Hunters) or carry on up to Lake Kel’Theril and back round to Everlook.

· Blasted Lands: not a massive amount of Thorium to be had here, but good for a quick run, whilst your looking for Mithril.

· Searing Gorge: same as the Mithril run above.

· Burning Steppes: No real decent run here. Just do full circuits picking up Dark Iron as well.

· Eastern Plaguelands: start at Tyr’s Hand and head north past Lights Hope Chapel. Go past The Noxious Glade and onto Northdale. Head west to Northpass Tower and then south to Blackwood Lake. Carry on south to the Pestilent Scar and then onto Lake Mereldar and back to your starting point. You may want to throw in a quick diversion to The Fungal Vale, in between Northpass Tower and Blackwood Lake.

·Western Plaguelands: start at The Weeping Cave and head south to Gahrrons Withering and then west to Dalsons Tears. Head northwest from here to the edge of Felstone Field and follow the cliffs north into the Northridge Lumber Camp. Follow the path up towards Hearthglen and then double back once you reach the watchtower. Head south and follow the cliffs all the way back round to The Weeping Cave.

Mining 300 to 375 Guide

by Highlander on EU-Terenas

300 – 330

Mining Fel Iron
Estimated number of nodes to mine = 30

Mining mainly Fel Iron.

Start at the Dark Portal and face nor, north-west. Following the edge of the world round in an anti-clockwise fashion round the back of the Dark Portal and loop round. Continue following the edge of the world and end up in Void Ridge. Either take the small valley shortcut to Zeth’Gor or continue on round the mountains and loop back south to Zeth’Gor that way. Follow the mountain line down to Spinebreaker Post and onto the Expedition Armoury. Follow the edge of the owrld until you reach the where the Ravagers are and then head north. Stay to the eastern side of the broken walls leading to Hellfire Citadel and then drop down and back up when you reach the Citadel proper. Continue north, skirting round Thrallmar on the western side until you reach the edge of the world again. If your Horde, head back through Thrallmar and then north up into the Forge camps. If your Alliance, head south past Thrallmar and loop back up to the Forge Camps. From here head east, following the mountains and then south. If your really daring (read: suicidal) then head up onto the Abssyal Shelf and mine all the nodes there. If your flying, there is normally one or two nodes that you can get to without dying, but to be honest it isn’t really worth the effort.
Now head back to the Dark Portal to complete your circuit.

Start at the entrance to Zangarmarsh and head north round all the elite giants (really need to be level 68+ to avoid too much aggro) and loop east to the Temple of Telhamat. If your Alliance, ride/fly straight past. Horde should just detour slightly round to the south. Now head up into Mag’har Post and back down and around in The Pools of Aggonar. Complete a circuit of the pools and then head south to the Citadel. Drop down and then back up again and head toward the south eastern edge of The Great Fissure. Do a quick clockwise circuit of The Great Fissure and then head south and up into the Stonescythes main nesting area. Drop down into the Den Haal’esh and then north and east, following the mountains along to the Ruins of Sha’Naar.

You could also carry on mining Thorium. Rich Thorium viens will still be green until about 340. So refer back to the 1 to 300 guide for routes.

330 – 355

Mining Fel Iron and Adamantite
Estimated number of nodes to mine = 25

Move onto Nagrand for Adamantite mining and more Fel Iron mining.

Start at the entrance to Terokkar Forest and head west past Kil’Sorrow Fortress and round the back of Telaar and onto Oshu’gun. Follow the mountains round and upto the Ancestral Grounds. Now head east following the road down towards Telaar. Head east before Telaar and drop down into the valley that leads toward the Ring of Trials. Carry on heading east to the Windy Reed Village then head south and continue past the Burning Blade Ruins and back to your strating point.

Start at the entrance to Zangarmarsh and head east past the Laughing Skull Ruins and on toward the Throne of Elements. If your flying, scope out the Elemental Plateau for the nodes that spawn there. Now head back tot eh north side of Garadar and head towards Halaa. Drop down into the valley and pick up the nodes in the cave and then back up into Sunspring Post. Head towards the Ancestral Grounds and then north past the Forge Camps and up to Warmaul Hill. It’s worth going through the main cave in Warmaul Hill as there is nearly always 2-4 nodes in there.

355 – 375

Mining Fel Iron and Adamantite
Estimated nymber of nodes to mine = 30

You can stay in Nagrand and repeat the above routes, but this time picking up all the Rich adamantite nodes you had to leave or you could:

Move onto Shadowmoon Valley.
Easiest route is to just follow the main road round in a circuit. Simple really, but I’ll list a couple of the shorter routes I do as well, which really require a flying mount.

Starting at the Sanctum of the Stars, head south following the Path of Conquest to the edge of the world. Now go south east and over to Netherwing Ledge. Do a quick circuit and head back towards Dragonmaw Fortress area. Aim towards the Wardens Cage and then back down to the Snactum of the Stars.

Start at the entrance to Terokkar Forest and head north past Shadowmoon Village and onto Coilskar point. There is a cave here that normally has at least one node in, but I don’t normally bother. Fly up to the Shattered Fields and then round the back of the Altar of Sha’tar. Now aim towards the Coilskar’s to the south of Sha’tar and loop round The Hand of Gul’dan and onto The Deathforge. I find it’s worth the effort to clear all the mobs inside for the number of nodes that are normally there, but you may not want to be bothered. Now head south west to Illidari Point and then north to the Legion Hold and back to where you started.

How to level Mining in TBC Classic

The best and easiest way to level mining in TBC Classic is to mine Fel Iron Ore from 300 to 325 in Hellfire Peninsula. Once there, you can move to higher level zones and start mining Adamantite Ore until you reach 375.

As for a more detailed TBC Mining Guide, there is a section on that down below. Minable Ore Veins of TBC Classic are Fel Iron Ore, Adamantite Ore and Khorium Ore. The TBC Mining Trainers are in Honor Hold and Thrallmar, respectively. Additionally, there is a Master Mining Trainer both on the Aldor and Scryer side of Shattrath City.

Classic Mining Leveling Guide Tips & Tricks

There are a few important things to mention before you start leveling your mining skill with the help of this mining leveling guide. First of all, keep in mind that Darnassus has no ore at all, so if you are an elf, you need to get to Darkshore first. In addition, mining nodes mostly appear on hills or mountains, so keep that in mind when you are doing your rounds. Also remember that you don’t need to get all the skill point from mining, as smelting also gives skill points at some stages.

Classic Mining Leveling Guide 1 – 300

1-65 | Copper

Copper can be found in most of the starting zones, with the exception of Teldrassil/Darnassus. Copper should be easy enough to find in your respective starting zone, this is the easy part.

66-125 | Incendicite + Tin

Easiest way to level up to 125, is to go to The Wetlands and find Thelgan Rock (its near the entrance to Dun Algaz – 53,64). Alternatively, you can mine Tin in one of the following zones: Hillsbrad Foothills, Ashenvale, Wetlands, Redridge Mountains.

126-175 | Iron + Gold

Arathi Highlands and Alterac Mountains are great. Just do full rounds where ever there are hills and mountains in these zones. Desolace and Stranglethorn Vale work too, but not as fast.

176-250 | Mithril + Truesilver

Blasted Lands, Searing Gorge and Badlands are good for farming Mithril. The Hinterlands and Western Plaguelands are good too, but they also have some thorium, which you can’t mine yet, so it’s slower.

250-300 | Thorium

Thorium Ore spawns in any high level zone. The Burning Steppes can be good, as you can also pick up Dark Iron Ore along the way, but in my opinion the higher zones like Winterspring and Silithus are more worth it, because they have a higher chance of Rich Veins, which can have Arcane Crystals in them. Arcane Crystals are the real money maker for miners, as they can sell for up to 20g, depending on your server.

TBC Mining Leveling Guide

TBC Mining Guide 300 – 375

300-325 | Fel Iron Ore

Fel Iron Deposits are mostly found in Hellfire Peninsula, though they also spawn in some other lower-level zones like Zangarmarsh, Terokkar Forest and Nagrand. It has a 10% chance do contain some Motes of Fire or Earth each and can in theory bring you all the way to 375, but it will be green later on.

325+ | Adamantite Ore & Nethercite

Adamantite Deposits come in two variants: regular and Rich. The regular Adamantite Deposits are commonly found Blade’s Edge Mountains, Nagrand, Terokkar Forest and rarely in Zangarmarsh. Regular Deposits can be mined from 325 Skill. The Rich Adamantite Veins have a much higher chance for Motes of Earth (almost 50%!) and are mostly found in Nagrand and Shadowmoon Valley. Rich Deposits require 350 Mining Skill.

You can also mine Nethercite Ore on the Netherwing Island in south-east Shadowmoon Valley. It requres you to have a flying mount to get there though, and need 350+ Mining Skill. Nethercite Ore is used to gain Reputation with the Netherwing Faction

375 | Khorium Ore

Khorium Veins can be found anywhere in the Outlands and rarely spawn instead of Adamantite or Fel Iron Deposits. This is the same mechanic as in Classic, as Truesilver does the same thing with Mithril and Thorium. Khorium Ore cannot be prospected and required 375 Mining Skill to harvest.

How to get Eternium Ore in TBC Classic

Much like Fel Lotus, Eternium Ore has a small chance to be contained in any Outland Mining Node. The best way to farm Eternium ore is to just mine as much Adamantite Deposits and Khorium Veins as you can, as those have the highest chances to contain Eternium Ore.

TBC Eternium Ore Chances

  • Fel Iron Deposit: ~1.5%
  • Nethercite Deposit (Quest): ~2%
  • Adamantite Deposit: ~5%
  • Deposits in Dungeons: ~10%
  • Rich Adamantite Deposit: ~8%
  • Khorium Vein: ~6-10%

TBC Classic Mining Guide + Farming Route

This TBC Classic Mining leveling guide will show you the fastest way to level your Mining profession up from 1 to 375 in Burning Crusade Classic.

Mining serves three professions: Blacksmithing, Jewelcrafting, and Engineering, so it's really good combined with any of these three. Check out my TBC Classic Blacksmithing leveling, Jewelcrafting leveling, or my Engineering leveling guide if you want to level any of these professions.

I recommend trying Zygor's 1-70 Leveling Guide if you are still leveling your character or you just started a new alt. The guide will help you to reach level 70 a lot faster.

Table of contents:

Mining Trainers

You can learn Mining from any of these NPCs below. Just click on any of the links below to see the trainer's exact location. You can also walk up to a guard in any city and ask where the Mining trainer is, and then the trainer will be marked with a red flag on your map.

Classic Trainers (1-300)

TBC Trainers (300-375)

You can learn the new TBC Mining skill in Hellfire Peninsula from Hurnak Grimmord (Alliance) at Honor Hold or Krugosh (Horde) at Thrallmar.

Smelting to 290

If you have enough gold, you can actually skip the first 290 skill points by simply smelting ores. But, if you need the ores for Jewelcrafting, or you simply prefer leveling Mining regularly, then scroll down a bit in the guide for farming routes.

Most smelting recipes are yellow or green, so I cannot list the exact number of ores that you will need. These are all approximate numbers below.

Mining Leveling Routes

Don't forget to buy a Mining Pick from the Mining Supply vendor near your trainer! You don't have to equip it, but you have to have one in your inventory.

Make sure that you turn on the Find Minerals filter on your minimap!

1 - 65

Every starter zone is filled with Copper Ore. It doesn't really matter which one you choose.

Night Elf players have to wait until they get to Darkshore before they can start leveling mining because Teldrassil doesn't have any Copper Ore.

High level players should always enter the Venture Co. Mine because you will get around 8 Copper Veins from clearing both the mine and the small area after the mine at the side the mountain. (you can only access this area from the mine)

It can be a nightmare to find the exit the first time you are there so I included a small map. You won't see this map in-game, because it's from the Cataclysm expansion, but the layout is the same. Make sure to go to every corner of the cave!

Low level players should skip both caves.

Low level players should skip both caves.

The respawn rate is fast enough that you don't have to loop around the whole zone, so you can use these two routes. If you have competition, you should move between the two routes while mining copper between them.

65 - 125

Visit your trainer and learn Journeyman Mining. (You need to level up Mining to at least 50)

Ores in these zones: Tin Ore, Copper Ore, Silver Ore

Low level players should skip the two caves marked with red circles.

Low level players should skip both caves and stick to the east side of Redridge.

The respawn rate should be fast enough that you don't have to enter the cave marked on the map, but there is always two Tin Veins inside, so I think it's worth to go inside with high level characters.

There is more Tin/Copper at the southern route, but you can use the northern route as an alternative if there are too many people farming in the zone. The difference between the two is not that big.

125 - 175

Visit your trainer and learn Expert Mining. (You need to level up Mining to at least 125)

Ores in these zones: Iron Ore, Tin Ore, Gold Ore

There are 4 caves marked with red circles on the map, make sure to go all the way to the end of each cave because you won't see all the mining veins from the entrance.

Low level players should skip all 4 caves, and low level Alliance players should take a detour and go south of Hammerfall!

175 - 245

Don't forget to visit your Mining trainer and learn Artisan Mining when you reach 225! (You need to level up Mining to at least 200)

Ores in these zones: Mithril Ore, Truesilver Ore

The red route should be skipped by lower level players because the area is filled with level 62 elites. Lower level players might also want to consider skipping the cave marked with a red circle on the map. (depends on your gear/class)

Players below level 60 should skip the 4 caves marked with red circles.

245 - 275

Ores in these zones: Mithril Ore, Truesilver Ore, Thorium Ore

There are 2-3 mineral veins in the two caves marked with the red circles on the map.

Lower level players should probably skip the cave to the south. It really depends on your level/gear/class.

There are two caves marked with a red circle on the map, both of them have a lot of mobs inside, so I would only recommend this farming place to level 60 players with good gear, or for Druids and Rogues with stealth.

It's really hard to navigate inside the Garrison Armory mine, so I included a small map. Alliance players can't mine inside the Garrison Armory!

There are usually 2 mining nodes insides the cave marked with a red circle. It's worth going inside the cave because it's not too large and there aren't that many mobs inside, and if you are high level, you can pass some of them without aggro.

I recommend skipping the other two caves at Jaednar, especially Shadow Hold. (maybe if you have stealth it's worth to go inside them)

275 - 300

Ores in these zones: Thorium Ore, Mithril Ore

Now you can mine Rich Thorium Veins too.

Almost the same as the previous Un'Goro route, but now it includes Rich Thorium Veins.

The red line is filled with level 57-58 elites, so if you have bad gear, you should probably just skip that part entirely unless you have stealth. With some practice, you can usually get through only aggroing a few of them.

All of these notes below are for players below level 70. If you are already at max level, just ignore these, you can farm the full map without problems.

  1. The mobs in this cave are not that hard to kill, so it's worth clearing for most classes. (depends on gear)
  2. Most classes can enter at least the first part of the cave without pulling aggro. You can try going deeper depending on your gear.
  3. There are a lot of elites patroling inside this gorge, but you can usually pass most of them without pulling aggro. Sometimes you have to kill 1 or 2.
  4. This area is not recommended for most players because it's hard to farm here without dying. Really depends on your class and your experience in avoiding mobs.

The two caves marked with red circles are filled with level 50 mobs, so lower level players might want to skip them. (depends on gear and level)

Burning Crusade Classic (300-375)

You can learn the new TBC Mining skill in Hellfire Peninsula from Hurnak Grimmord (Alliance) at Honor Hold or Krugosh (Horde) at Thrallmar.

300 - 325

I recommend Route 1 and Route 2 for level 70 players with flying mount. There is not much difference between the two routes, I got roughly the same number of Fel Iron on both routes.

If you don't have a flying mount and are still leveling your character, then use Route 3.

It's impossible to avoid pulling mobs in Hellfire Penninsula with a low level character, but this route avoids most areas with high density of mobs, so you can use it with lower level characters.

Don't use this if you have a flying mount!

325 - 350

There will be a few Rich Adamantite nodes in Terokkar Forest that you can't mine until you reach 350. But, they can only spawn in the areas accessible by flying mount, so this is not an issue for lower level players. (Skettis and the area above Shattrat City)

There are two caves marked with red circles on the map. You should go inside both of them and make sure that you go all the way to the end because sometimes you won't see the Mining nodes from the entrance.

You will need a flying mount for this route, use route 3 if you don't have one.

Alternative route for players without flying mount.

350 - 375

I recommend getting your last 25 skill points in Nagrand, Netherstorm or Shadowmoon Valley.

These routes below are made for players with flying mount. You can mine everything except Khorium with 350 mining skill, so if you are not level 70 yet, I think it's best to simply focus on leveling and getting your flying mount. I don't think it worth focusing on getting to 375 if you are not 70 yet.

But, if you want to reach 375 with a lower-level character, I recommend just sticking to Terokkar Forest and Zangarmarsh. Both Adamantite Ore and Fel Iron ore give skill points all the way up to 375.

There are four caves marked with red circles on the map. You should go inside them and make sure that you go all the way to the end because sometimes you won't see the Mining nodes from the entrance.

Just like in Nagrand, I marked the caves with red circles on the map. But, you should only go inside if you have stealth or if there is a lot of other people farming in the zone. These are much bigger than the Nagrand caves, and the mobs are a lot higher level. (maybe with good gear it's worth clearing them)

There are two caves in the zone, but it's not worth going inside them. It takes too long to get to the nodes, and you can farm more ores just doing laps in the zone instead.

Congratulations on reaching 375! Please send feedback about the guide if you think there are parts I could improve, or you found typos, errors, wrong material numbers!

Mining guide tbc

In this World of Warcraft guide everything revolves around Burning Crusade Classic Mining and how to level it.

Content

Mining is one of the most essential gathering professions in all of WoW. It involves extracting ore from mineral nodes throughout the game, and it provides the reagents for Blacksmithing, Engineering, and Jewelcrafting. These are found using a miner’s most basic ability: Find Minerals, which indicates spawns on your minimap.

Mining can also be quite profitable by either selling stacks of ore, or by turning the ore into bars through the process of Smelting and selling stacks of the bars.

Outland Mining Trainer

Burning Crusade Classic Mining can be learned from the following trainers:

  • WoW AllianzHurnak Grimmord – Honor Hold, Hellfire Peninsula [56.7, 63.8]
  • WoW HordeKrugosh – Thrallmar, Hellfire Peninsula [55.4, 37.6]

Outland Ores and Nodes

Mining: 1-300

To get your profession to 300 you can use our Classic Mining Guide.

Mining: 300-375

A small side note: Rich Thorium Deposits are still yellow on skill 300 and can basically grant points up to skill 340. So if you don’t want to fight with others for ores on Outland, you can fall back on them. Otherwise:

From 300-315, smelting Fel Iron Ore grants skill points.
In many cases (and if you are in a hurry) it can be worthwhile to use this for the first points – namely when the ingots are more expensive than the ore.

Fel Iron Deposit

Competition when gathering will be tough (especially at the start of the expansion so don’t get discouraged if you can’t find Fel Iron Nodes on Hellfire Peninsula. Even if you can’t find some, it has the highest number of node spawns.

From 325-340, smelting AdamantiteOre grants skill points. It can be worthwhile to use this for several easy points – especially when the bars are more expensive than the ore.

Adamantite Deposit (325)

Adamantite is not as common as Fel Iron and is the second ore you need to gather to reach 375. Like Thorium is has two kinds of nodes: Normal and Rich, which have differend skill requirements.

To efficiently gather Adamantite, the best zone is Nagrand. Just ride (or fly) in big or small circles, however you want!

From 350 to 365, smelting Eternium Ore or Felsteel (a combination of Fel Iron Bars and Eternium Bars) grants you a few easy skill points (from 357 on, though, the recipes are green and you’ll have to get a little lucky). It still can be worthwhile to use this for several easy points – especially when the ingots are more expensive than the ore.

Adamantite Deposit (325) and Rich Adamantite Deposit (350)

Adamantite is not as common as Fel Iron and is the second ore you need to gather to reach 375. Like Thorium is has two kinds of nodes: Normal and Rich, which have differend skill requirements.

To efficiently gather Adamantite, the best zone is Nagrand. Just ride (or fly) in big or small circles, however you want!

Khorium

Khorium Ore is essential to high level crafting in TBC. High-level Blacksmithing and Engineering patterns require Khorium Bar and Jewelers can get high level gems by prospecting Khorium.

To get it you need to mine Khorium Veins, which can be found in all zones of Outlands but most efficiently in Nagrand (or the Isle of Quel’Danas). You can farm it in Zangarmarsh as well, but the zone is too large which makes mining there a pain. Instead focus on Nagrand.

Eternium

Eternium Ore (like Fel Lotus for Herbalists) is a rare drop available from all nodes throughout Outlands. Out of these, however Khorium Veins, Adamantite Deposits and Rich Adamantite Deposits all have a heightened drop chance.

Farming Eternium should not be your priority, instead choose the ore you need the most and focus on farming that.
Depending on how much time you spend mining you pretty sure will find a bunch of Eternium.

Classic WoW: Mining Profession Guide and Leveling 1-300!

No matter what it’s used for, Mining is a suitable gathering profession for any class, so long as the benefits make sense for your play style.

Training Mining

Vanilla

Trainers in any capital city will be able to train you from Apprentice through Artisan Mining. All you need to do is grab a Mining Pick from a supplies vendor and get going.

Outland

Once you reach Outland, your Master Mining trainers will be among the other profession trainers in your faction’s first quest area. So, the Alliance will speak with Hurnak Grimmord, and the Horde will need to find Krugosh in Thrallmar.

Leveling Mining

To level gathering professions, the process usually involves completing rings around the outside of any given zone. These are referred to as “circuits”. In the guide below, unless otherwise specified, the most optimal route to take will be completing a circuit around the given zone.

1-300

1 – 65: Copper Vein

You’ll begin by mining Copper Veins. These can be found abundantly near any starting area.

After you’ve reached skill 65, you can stop mining Copper. You should learn Journeyman before continuing.

65 – 125: Tin Vein

To collect Tin, players in the Eastern Kingdoms can continue on to Loch Modan, Silverpine Forest, Ghostlands, or Duskwood. For those in Kalimdor, Darkshore, Ashenvale, and Stonetalon Mountains will all provide ample nodes.

Once you’ve mined enough Tin, return to a trainer and become an Expert Miner.

125 – 160: Iron Deposit

In the Eastern Kingdoms, Iron is noticeably easier to gather than on Kalimdor. The most densely populated zone is Arathi Highlands, or you can remain in Duskwood, and in addition to your standard circuit, make another ring around The Twilight Grove. In Kalimdor you can stay in Stonetalon Mountains or move to Desolace or Thousand Needles.

160 – 175: Gold Vein

To strike gold, you’ll need to look close to Iron Deposits. This means no matter what continent you’re on, you can continue using the same routes you used to gather Iron. For those in the Eastern Kingdoms, you can also switch zones to either the Badlands or Alterac Mountains. And in the Stonetalon Mountains, focus your efforts around the Charred Vale.

175 – 225: Mithril Deposit

For those in the Eastern Kingdoms, you can still remain in Arathi Highlands to finish this step out. Mithril Deposits should spawn plentifully along the same circuit you’ve been using. Otherwise, the Burning Steppes is the next most dependable zone followed by Badlands. In Kalimdor, both Tanaris and Azshara should have enough nodes to get you to Artisan. But, going forward, it’s recommended that you head to the Eastern Kingdoms.

When you mine enough Mithril to reach skill level 225, you can learn Artisan Mining from a trainer.

225 – 230: Mithril Deposit

Once you’ve learned Artisan, resume your Mithril routes from earlier until you reach 230.

230 – 250: Truesilver Deposit

Plainly put, it’s easiest to find Truesilver in the Eastern Kingdoms. Players who have been farming in Arathi Highlands can still remain there and can continue using the same circuit as before. Those in the Burning Steppes and Badlands can do the same. On Kalimdor, Truesilver is scarce. There are nodes along the western most ridges in Tanaris and scattered throughout Winterspring, but it’s easiest to find them in the Easern Kingdoms.

250 – 300: Small Thorium Vein (250) and Rich Thorium Vein (275)

There are two primary types of Thorium Veins: Small and Rich. You’ll begin by gathering Small Veins, and once you reach 275, you should focus your attention primarily on Rich Veins. While Thorium can be found by making circuits in Tanaris, Un’Goro Crater, and Silithus, it is still advisable to farm in the Eastern Kingdoms. Both the Burning Steppes and Badlands have double to quadruple the amount of node spawns as zones in Kalimdor.

After collecting enough Thorium, you can cross through the Dark Portal and become a Master Miner.

300-375

300 – 330: Fel Iron Deposit

Once you’re in Outland, competition for veins will become tougher, as there are fewer zones and flying mounts decrease the time it takes to reach nodes. Fel Iron can be found by making circuits in any zone, but the two most advisable are Hellfire Peninsula and Terokkar Forest. Hellfire is useful because it has the highest number of node spawns, and Terokkar is especially worthwhile for power leveling because you can quickly move to Nagrad to start collecting Adamantite.

330 – 375: Adamantite Deposit (325) and Rich Adamantite Deposit (350)

Adamantite is rarer than Fel Iron, and it will be the last mineral you’ll need to gather to cap. Like Thorium, there are two types of: standard and Rich. And, like the previous Rich veins, there is a difference of 25 skill levels between when you can gather normal and Rich deposits.

To efficiently collect both, however, the optimal zone is Nagrad. Making complete circuits around Nagrand should be enough to reach 350, but once you start looking for Rich Deposits specifically, you’ll need to focus your route. The nodes effectively spawn in a ring, and you should be able to streamline your hunt if you make a circle passing through Sunspring Post, down to the encampment just south of Forge Camp Fear, continue around Oshu’Gun to Telaar, south to Kil’Sorrow Fortress, and then following the eastern border of the zone up through Burning Blade Ruins — eventually passing through Garadar and returning to Sunspring.

And once you’ve gathered enough, you’ll have capped! Congratulations! Keep reading to find information on the two endgame ores in TBC: Khorium Ore and Eternium Ore

Endgame Nodes (Khorium and Eternium)

Khorium

Khorium Ore is essential to endgame crafting in TBC. High-level Blacksmithing and Engineering patterns require Khorium Bars, and high level gems are prospected from the ore itself.

The nodes to gater it are Khorium Vein, which can be found in all zones of Outlands. To farm most effectively, however, the two most advisable zones are Nagrad and the Isle of Quel’Danas. While Khorium technically spawns the most in Zangarmarsh, the size of the zone makes it ineffective to farm in.

Instead, in Nagrand, widen your Rich Adamantite route to include Twilight Ridge and make sure to pass by the Ring of Trials. Otherwise, the route is virtually similar. The Isle of Quel’Danas is particularly useful to visit because of its small size. Though there are fewer veins here than some other zones, completing a circuit around takes a fraction of the time.

Eternium

Eternium Ore is a rare drop available from all nodes throughout Outlands. Out of these, however, higher level deposits, like Khorium Vein, Adamantite Deposit, and Rich Adamantite Deposit all have a shared, highest drop chance. Because of this, farming for Eternium specifically is a futile task. Instead, it’s advisable to choose between the other minerals you’d like to farm, and then invest a solid amount of time into it. That way, you’ll surely find some Eternium.
