Dining Out: Seafood’s the star at Oyster Bar

• Tell us about your restaurant: Oyster Bar & Seafood Grill is all about family. Wayne, Joyce and Rodney Horne are the owners of the year-old restaurant, which opened in December

And Wayne Horne says they don’t just own the place. “We’re here, we manage it. One or two or all of us are here all the time.”

The restaurant, which has seating for about customers, specializes in fried seafood and has a full oyster bar and cocktail bar.

The menu always features five kinds of fish — flounder, catfish, salmon, tuna and tilapia — and Horne said the restaurant tries to add at least two more varieties of fresh fish daily, such as mahi mahi, grouper, wahoo, red snapper and swordfish.

A fairly recent addition to the menu is low-country steam pots, one of the restaurant’s pricier options. The No. 1 steam pot, with snow crab legs, mussels, clams, oysters, shrimp, smoked sausage, corn on the cob and red potatoes cooked in a seasoned broth is $

Appetizers range from cheese fries for $ to a dozen oysters (raw or steamed, with cocktail sauce) for $

The restaurant also serves steaks, ribs and chicken; salads; several pasta dishes; and both New England clam chowder and oyster stew.

• Specialties: As the name implies, oysters in all forms take center stage at the restaurant, from raw to the fancy oysters Rockefeller, with spinach, parsley, bacon, spices and cheese.

• Most popular dish: The fried combination plate, which is $ for two seafoods and $ for three, is a favorite among customers, Horne said. Choices are tilapia, catfish, flounder, shrimp, popcorn shrimp, deviled crab and clam strips. Diners can substitute oysters for $3 or sea scallops or fantail shrimp for $2.

• Why should diners eat here? “We feel we have a very good quality product,” Horne said, “and we try to provide it at a fair and reasonable price.

“And we offer very good service.”
