Visa for visitors without authorization for lucrative activities

Applicable to foreigners who intend to enter Mexico in the condition of visitor's stay without permission to carry out activities paid, for a period of up to days.

Requirements:

  1. Passport or identity and travel document that is valid under international law original and copy;
  2. A photograph with the face visible and without glasses, in color, passport size, whose measurements must be with a white background;
  3. Original and copy of the document proving their legal stay, if the foreign person is not a national of the country where you apply for the visa, and
  4. Present the document to prove economic solvency:
    • Original and copy of the documents that prove that you have employment with a monthly income of $ USD for the past three months or
    • Original and copy of proof of investments or bank accounts with an average balance minimum of $1, USD for the past three months
  5. Interview fee: $ US Dollars.
  6. Fill out the Application form, English or Spanish

Temporary Resident

Visa for Temporary Residents

Applicable to foreigners who intend to enter Mexico in the temporary resident status in order to remain for a time greater than days and not more than 4 years.

Requirements:

  1. Passport or identity and travel document that is valid under international law original and copy;
  2. A photograph with the face visible and without glasses, in color, passport size, whose measurements must be with a white background;
  3. Original and copy of the document proving their legal stay, if the foreign person is not a national of the country where you apply for the visa, and
  4. Submit one of the following in original and one photocopy
    1. Economic solvency:
      1. financial records of the last twelve months of your bank statements with a minimum average balance of $27, USD per month or;
      2. pay roll stubs or retirement of the last six months with a minimum income of $1, USD for the past six months after taxes and employment letter specifying your position and salary during the last six months.
    2. Invitation from a public or private organization or institution.

    If a company/organization in Mexico is sponsoring or inviting the foreign national in an specific project or investigation, the applicant must submit an original invitation
    Letter (**) (the invitation must have a letterhead, address and signed in ink. Scanned, fax or PDF versions will not be accepted).
    Ministers of religion should submit original letter of “anuencia” (consent) of the Ministry of the Interior (Secretaría de Gobernación) from Mexico when they do not comply with the requirements A) or B) above mentioned.

    (**) Invitation Letter letter must contain the following:

    Applicant’s full name

    • Letter from the company/organization based in Mexico addressed to the Consulate General of Mexico in Detroit requesting the visa and specifying:
    • The registration number, plus address, complete name and contact information of the company/organization
    • Exact purpose or activity and length of time for the trip to Mexico.
    • How your expenses will be covered. In order to prove that the organization or private institution that invites the applicant has sufficient resources, the applicant must present original documents either from investments or bank statements that show the company has a minimum monthly balance of $95, USD during the last twelve months.
    • Copy of ID of the person who signed the invitation letter
    • The applicant must provide documents that prove that he or she has the experience, capacity, skills or knowledge necessary to carry out the activity for which is invited.

    In the event that the institution which invites does not cover the living expenses, then the applicant must provide:

    Original proof of investments or bank statements with a monthly average balance of $12, USD during the last twelve months, or

    Original documents that show the applicant has an employment or a pension with a minimum monthly income of $ USD after taxes during the last six months.

    1. Family Union

    Family bond with foreigner holding Mexican temorary or permanent residency or valid visa

    Must present original and one copy of all documents presented (birth, marriage certificate)

  5. Interview fee: $ US Dollars
  6. Fill out the Application form, English or Spanish

Permanent Resident

Permanent Resident

Applicable to foreigners who intend to enter the permanent resident status and are retired.

    1. Passport or identity and travel document that is valid under international law original and copy;

    2. A photograph with the face visible and without glasses, in color, passport size, whose measurements must be with a white background;

    3. Original and copy of the document proving their legal stay, if the foreign person is not a national of the country where you apply for the visa, and

    4. Submit one of the following in original and one photocopy:

  1. Retirees:
    • Investing or Financial records of your bank statements in USD of the last twelve months maintaining a minimum average balance of $, USD per month;
    • Retirement (SSA) for the last 6 months with a minimum income of $2, US dollars per month or;
  2. Family Union:
    • Document proving the family relationship with a Mexican or Mexican permanent resident.

Interview fee: $ US Dollars

Lucrative

Visa for visitors with authorization for lucrative activities

• If the purpose of entering into Mexico is working and you will receive a salary or payment right there (lucrative activities), you will have to apply for prior authorization to the National Institute of Immigration in Mexico www.inami.gob.mx, Upon approval, you will receive an authorization number (NUT).

As soon as you have the authorization letter, please provide the NUT number to the following e-mail address:

Visa for the purpose of adoption

If you are traveling to Mexico in order to complete the legal process to adopt a child.

Requirements:.

  • Fill out the Application form, English or Spanish
  • Apply at this Consulate in person
  • Valid passport in original and one photocopy of the pages containing personal information, a photograph of bearer, and expiration date/extensions.
  • One photo passport size(size x /4 inches), in color, no glasses.
  • Report to be matched with a child (informe de adoptabilidad o pre-asignación) Issued by the “National System for the Full Development of the Family” (Sistema Nacional para el Desarrollo Integral de la Familia, -DIF-). Original and a copy.
  • Letter of acceptance that you will continue processing a child’s adoption issued by the State Authority, legally recognized by the USA Government (similar to the DIF in Mexico). Original and 1 copy.
  • Consular fee: $ US dollars.

Student

Temporary Resident Student

This type of visa is for you if:

  • You are traveling to study in Mexico
  • You do not have a work authorization

Requirements:

  • Fill out the Application form, English or Spanish
  • Apply at this Consulate in person
  • One photo passport size (size x /4 inches), in color, no glasses
  • Valid passport in original and one photocopy of the pages containing personal information, a photograph of bearer and expiration date/extensions
  • Valid US visa for multiple entries; at least with 3 months of validity at the time of your filing and one photocopy *
  • Valid I in original and one photocopy *
  • Original Acceptance letter from the School/Institution/University must include:
    • Applicant’s full name Family name and given name as shown at the national passport
    • Level of Study/Degree Specifying degree or type of diploma
    • Field/program of study General academic or subject areas
    • Name of Program/Studies/Course Specific name of the course/program or studies Exchange program, Internship, etc
    • Length of program Date a program begins and date of completion
    • Tuition fee Total fees required, including tuition and homestay if applicable
    • Full Name of the Institution and additional information The letter must include the name of the institution, institution’s mailing address, telephone, fax number, e-mail, Web site, and name of the contact
    • Others The letter must be issued with letterhead; address and signature in ink of institution Representative
  • Economic Solvency
    • Original and a copy of the last twelve months of bank statements, proving to have a regular income, pension; proof of a scholarship or other financial assistance for at least $ US dollars per month during the last 12 months; or
    • Original and a copy of financial investments or bank statements with a minimum average of $ 5, US dollars during the last 6 months.
  • Sponsor by parents or legal guardian (for students under 25 years old):
    • Original Letter from parents stating that they will be sending their son or daughter the amount of, at least $ US dollars per month, besides tuition (Affidavit of support)
    • ID copy of parents (valid passports) and Applicant’s birth certificate (original and copy)
  • Payment of Consular fee $ US dollars

Requirements:

Household

HOUSEHOLD FOR RESIDENTS IN MEXICO

Foreigners that have a Non-Immigrant Card “Tarjeta de no Inmigrante” or visa to work or live in Mexico for more than six months are eligible to take household goods, that must be inventoried.

The list must be in English and Spanish, typed in a single space on white paper, leaving a space of two inches from the top.

Each item must be numbered progressively and on a separate line, beginning with the electronics specifying a brand, model, and serial number (including kitchen appliances).

  • Small items packed in boxes or crates must be described and numbered in the list as one box (crate) containing clothing, kitchen utensils, etc.
  • Each page of your original list must be signed on the bottom, right-hand corner.
  • The original list, and four copies, must be presented to this Consulate of Mexico to obtain the certificate of household effects.
  • At the beginning of the list, you must write your full name, U.S.A, and Mexican address.
  • Fees: $ USD
  • The list will be delivered on the next business day.

At the end of the list, you must write: “Declaro, bajo protesta de decir verdad, que todos los objetos anteriormente enlistados son usados y de mi propiedad”. ("I declare under oath that the articles listed are used and belong to my property")

Temporary Importation of Equipment


In order to obtain a Temporary Import Permit for Equipment it is necessary to submit:
• 2 original letters with the same content on letterhead from the company or employer of the individual responsible for the equipment, requesting the permit.
• Purpose of the trip.
• State the location where the equipment will be used, and the length of time it will remain in Mexico.
• List the name/s of the individual/s responsible for the equipment. Position and what he/she is in charge of.
• Signature of the company Representative’s (Person requesting the permit. Please note it may not be the same as that responsible for the equipment, nor the person transporting it).
In addition, the following must accompany the letter:
• A detailed list of the equipment (brand, model, and/or serial number) and should all be printed on company letterhead, with one photocopy. Click here to see a sample.
• Two passport photocopies for the individual responsible for the equipment, as well as his/her Mexican Tourist Visa (if needed because of his/her nationality) and copies of the American visa or US Permanent Resident Card (if foreign national).
