The MSI Z390-A Pro uses the Intel FCLGA1151 CPU socket. Any compatible Intel CPU will have the same socket entry. It uses the DDR4 memory type, with maximum speeds of up to 3200 MHz, and 0 DDR4 slots allowing for a maximum total of 128 GB RAM.

Conforming to the ATX standard, the MSI Z390-A Pro should fit into the majority of cases. ATX is the most common form factor, and as such has a high degree of compatibility with other components while providing a decent number of slots to widen your expansion options.

The MSI Z390-A Pro has 6 SATA 3.0 hard drive slots. These allow for theoretical data transfer speeds of up to 6GB/s, as opposed to the 3GB/s of SATA 2.0. Generally speaking, only high performance hard drives, specifically solid-state drives, will be able to take advantage of the bandwidth potential of SATA 3.0 ports, though it is backwards compatible, so you do not have to take advantage.

The MSI Z390-A Prodoes not support onboard graphics. Any system build that uses this motherboard therefore requires a separate graphics card, or a processor that has a GPU on the same die, such as AMD APU processors. There are 2 PCIe x16 slots on this motherboard. This means it is perfectly capable of accommodating the latest graphics cards, although it is important to try and use a graphics card with the same graphics card interface of PCIe v3.0, as anything below will not reach the motherboard's potential, and anything above will have its performance slashed to the bandwidth maximum of the MSI Z390-A Pro's PCIe v3.0. The MSI Z390-A Pro supports up to 2 Nvidia SLI connected graphics cards or up to 2 AMD Crossfire connected graphics cards for improved overall graphical performance at the cost of multiplied graphics-based power consumption as well as the price of the cards themselves.

The MSI Z390-A Pro has 4 USB 2.0 slots but no USB 3.0 slots. While USB 3.0 slots are so far by no means necessary, and with a plethora of USB 2.0 peripherals to choose from, the USB functionality on this motherboard should be fine. With so few slots, however, you would have to use a USB expansion hub. As such, we would highly recommend a different motherboard, preferably with USB 3.0 functionality as well.

Ram compatibility z390

Hi all,

I am planning to upgrade my memory from 32Gb 2666mhz to 32Gb 3200mhz.
My concern and problem is that either memory i searched and checked in the QVL of my motherboard it doesn't exist/shows up there.

At the moment I am using this memory (HX426C16FB3K2/32). So far itis working with my current setup. Only sometimes the game crash to desktop(once or twice in a month) without any error or message. The thing I change now my case so in the same time I would like to change my memory as well for higher speed. For this one exactly (HX432C16FB3K2/32). But as I mentioned it does not show up in the QVL (compatibility list of my motherboard).
I would like 2x16Gb dual channel kit. And also this ram should be perfect for me (regarding its height) because my Cpu Cooler is a Noctua NH-D15.

The questions:

  1. Do I need higher mhz ram for my I9 9900k or the 2666mhz is enough?
  2. Is the 3200mhz is going to put stress on the I9 9900k due to the 9900k is only up to 2666mhz?
  3. Is it better to put 4kit instead of 2 kit?
  4. Do I need to set the speed for the 3200mhz in bios or just I should enable xmp?
  5. And the final question: Is the chosen Ram going to work with my motherboard and Cpu?
  6. Anybody has any recommendation for Ram which is 32gb and good speed and for sure will fit under my Noctua and will be compatible for sure with my motherboard and cpu?
