Had dinner for 4 . Staff was friendly and pleasant, overall very good service. I had the haddock with the crab on top. Probably one of the worst dinners I've had in many months, the fish was
dry and rubbery. Crab just as bad. I did not complain because it was my sons birthday and he had his lovely wife with him.. Sometimes this happens and that is why I m a creature of habit so I kept my mouth shut.

Fran Nachlas said she "couldn't wait" for Burtons Grill & Bar to open in Park Place near her Boca Raton home.

So when she saw opening day would be Oct. 16, she grabbed her mother to go for an early bird dinner.

"It's a nice atmosphere and the food came out hot," said Dolores Durst. They had both cauliflower and stuffed grilled zucchini appetizers and split the Reuben sandwich that comes with fries. Nachlas liked the apple-flavored sangria.

By 5:30 p.m. most of the seats at the bar in the dining room were full, along with a diverse crowd of diners.

The restaurant has a total seating capacity of 248 indoors, including 173 dining room seats and 31 seats at the bar. An outdoor patio complete with a water feature will accommodate an additional 75 guests at dining tables and a soft-seating area, plus 11 at the bar.

"We'll open the bar outside soon and the patio seating in November," said general manager Andy Holyst.

Indoors seats 62 with a choice of banquettes, high-tops, large community and regular table seating.

With high open ceilings and an open kitchen, the atmosphere is urban and informal and the bar and lounge offer flat-screen televisions.

"We're not a sports bar, but you can come in to watch the game," so diners can still be conversational, he said. There's an ample list of craft and draft beers. Themed happy hours from 4 to 7 p.m. weekdays will feature specialty drinks.

The new building on the north end of the new plaza at 5580 N. Military Trail is one of 14 locations and the first in the state for the Massachusetts-based chain. It specializes in fresh ingredients and homemade food, and caters to diners with dietary needs like gluten-free, food allergies and the newer paleo no sugar, no dairy and no gluten diet. Vegetarians have four choices from quinoa and Thai bowls to black bean burgers or wild mushroom risotto. Food specially prepared comes out on square dishes, said Holyst, formerly the manager at Carrabba's Italian Grill in Boca Raton.

Burtons' Mai Tai features a mango-pineapple ice sphere and a GS for gluten-sensitive drinks. Appetizers include cauliflower florets covered with ginger aioli and a Thai chili sauce dip; stuffed grilled zucchini and herb cheese and tomato sauce; spring rolls, calamari, wings; and buffalo chicken dip.

Two types of burgers were coming out of the kitchen and sandwiches also include the Reuben, fried haddock, two types of chicken, short rib grilled cheese and street tacos made with beef or fish.

Burtons offers filet mignon or New York strip from a Chicago purveyor. Entrees range from chicken risotto and a grilled pork chop and include catch-of-the-day risotto, short ribs, haddock, salmon, crab cakes and lobster shrimp pasta.

There's a children's menu with a choice of sides, and a chef's whim that allows for weekly creativity. The first week offered ahi tuna poke, black grouper with bacon and creamed corn and lobster Oscar filet. A separate dessert menu included a large round key lime pie portion, chocolate cake, crème brulee and after-dinner coffees and drinks.
