How to Build an Elementsaber Yu-Gi-Oh Deck

Jeremy enjoys dueling in between working as a chemical analyst and campus building manager.

What Are the Elementsaber Yu-Gi-Oh Monsters?

A subtype of the wider Saber series, the Elementsaber monsters revolve around altering their attributes to help summon the related Element Lord monsters, who hit opponents with hefty field-wipes or other detriments when they arrive.

While they bear different attributes, Elementsabers are united by their shared warrior type, qualifying for many potent soldier supports. But with dozens of potent members and backups available, where should you start deck-building? Here's a guide for how to begin constructing your Elementsaber Yu-Gi-Oh deck!

Elementsaber Monsters

  • Elementsaber Lapauila Mana
  • Elementsaber Aina
  • Elementsaber Makani
  • Elementsaber Molehu
  • Elementsaber Lapauila
  • Elementsaber Nalu
  • Elementsaber Malo

You can summon the Elementsaber ace, Mana, by sending two cards from your hand to the graveyard, and he'll offer different boosts depending on the attributes of the sent units. These defenses are crucial to protecting your other generally-frail Sabers.

By sending an Elementsaber from your hand to the graveyard, Aina revives Sabers or Lords from your graveyard, Makani adds one from your deck to your hand, and Molehu shifts opposing monsters to face-down defense position. Lapauila negates opposing spells/traps, Nalu recycles clan members from your graveyard to your hand, and Malo mills them from your deck to your graveyard. Remember, most Elementsabers can change their attributes in the graveyard, useful for the stringent summoning conditions of the Element Lords, but you'll still want a decent attribute mix to help empower Mana.

Element Lord Monsters

The Elemental Lord boss monsters all share ATK and DEF, and they must be specially summoned by having exactly five monsters of a corresponding attribute in your graveyard. Thankfully, since most vanquished Elementsabers can alter their attributes, this isn't as challenging as it sounds.

Elemental Lords forfeit the battle phase of your next turn when they leave the field, but they also copy infamously powerful spells/traps upon entrance. Windrose nukes all opposing spells/traps, Phosphorage does the same for monsters, and Moulinglacia discards two random cards from your opponent's hand. Grandsoil revives a monster from either graveyard, Pyrorex destroys a creature and inflicts its ATK as effect damage to both players, and Umbramirage searches a monster with or less ATK from your deck.

Since these traits trigger on entrance, protecting your Lords after arrival isn't essential, although remember that removal means a lost combat step.

Other Main Deck Monsters

  • Elemental Grace Doriado
  • Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning
  • The "Attribute Knight" cards
  • Goblindbergh

Elemental Grace Doriado starts with 0 ATK but improves by for each attribute in the graveyards, and you'll need six total to special summon her from your hand. Since you're probably not using the divine attribute of the Egyptian god cards, you'll thus need all six normal attributes; thankfully, your opponent's graveyard counts towards this total. Grace also lets you banish three monsters to negate and destroy an opposing special summon, handily locking down their army.

Meanwhile, classic Black Luster Soldier is summoned simply by banishing a light and dark monster from your graveyard; in addition to high ATK, he can banish opposing monsters or attack twice per turn. The various Attribute Knights (like the above dark Armageddon) simply send monsters of a corresponding element from your deck to your graveyard when summoned, helping search out types you're still missing, and Goblindbergh can special summon other cards from your hand, adeptly giving two warrior materials for an xyz or link summon.

Number Utopia
Number Utopia
Arcana Extra Joker
Invoked Purgatrio

Extra Deck Monsters

  • Number Utopia
  • Arcana Extra Joker
  • Invoked Monsters

Elementsabers don't heavily utilize on the extra deck, but unlike the Monarchs, they don't forbid it either, so feel free to infuse whichever extra units you like. Utopia protects your weaker creatures from attacks while Arcana negates opposing cards by discarding a unit with the same card type, and both synergize with any warrior supports you're running.

The Invoked monsters bear different elements in their fusion material requirements, and you'll need to include (or use a substitute for) "Aleister the Invoker", but they offer powerful fusion monster abilities (the El Shaddoll fusion monsters also offer attribute shenanigans to experiment with). Since you're likely not fielding many beasts at once, the additional extra deck zones of link monsters aren't often necessary for the Elementsabers, leaving you free to focus on other monster types.

Spells

  • Palace of the Elemental Lords
  • Reinforcement of the Army (limited as of writing)
  • The Warrior Returning Alive
  • Trade-In
  • Salvage

The Elementsabers contain a surprisingly low number of spell/trap supports in their archetype, but what they lack in quality, they make up for with quality. Field spell Palace of the Elemental Lords increases the ATK/DEF of your units based on the number of attributes in your graveyard, lets you add cards from your deck to your hand (though you'll forfeit an upcoming battle phase), and sends members from your deck rather than hand to activate Elementsaber effects (very useful).

Reinforcement of the Army is a general support that searches a level four warrior from your deck, The Warrior Returning Alive recycles one from your graveyard, and Trade-In discards a level eight monster to draw two cards, helpful if your hand gets clogged with the Lords. Finally, Salvage adds two water monsters with or less ATK from your graveyard to your hand, but since your troops may alter their attribute, you can rig the ability to your advantage.

Elemental Training
Elemental Training
Heavy Storm Duster

Traps

  • Elemental Training
  • Heavy Storm Duster
  • Fuh-Rin-Ka-Zan

Continuous trap Elemental Training's first pivotal role is guarding your Palace field, preventing your opponent from targeting or destroying it with effects. You can also once per turn tribute a monster to pull an Elementsaber with a different attribute from your deck, and you can sacrifice Training and discard your hand to add a corresponding number of Element Lords from your graveyard to your hand.

Heavy Storm Duster is simply one of my favorite spell/trap removals that I recommend for any deck (especially since it only costs a dollar), and it's particularly useful here since its potential downside of skipping battle phases is something your archetype will often already be doing. Fuh-Rin-Ka-Zan can activate one of four awesome abilities as long as there's a face-up earth, water, wind, and fire attribute creature; thankfully, this also tallies your foe's units and can easily be rigged with cards like "Invoked Elysium" and "Elemental Mistress Doriado".

How to Beat Elementsaber Decks

We've examined the best Elementsaber and Lord members while reviewing potent supports; now we'll quickly tackle several ways to counter them. Exiling cards from graveyards shuts down their Lord summoning, so make good use of cards of the trap "Macro Cosmos". Another trap, "Gozen Match", allows players to only control a single attribute, which can also spell trouble for the varied Saber bunch.

While the Lords certainly aren't slouches in battle, ATK can be overcome with even stronger aces, and quick beatdown strategies may break through Element decks before they're ready to counter. But for now, as we eagerly await Konami's next batch of element-changing warriors, vote for your favorite attribute and I'll see you at our next Yu-Gi-Oh countdown!

Elementsaber

"Elementsaber" (エレメントセイバー Erementoseibā) is an archetype of Warrior monsters debuting in Flames of Destruction. It is a sub-archetype of the "Saber" archetype, and closely linked to the "Elemental Lord" archetype.

Design[edit]

The "Elementsaber" monsters released so far are shown to be humans wearing an armor with similar design to the "Elemental Lord" of their respective elements. Their names are based on various words from the Hawaiian language.

Members[edit]

Playing style[edit]

The monsters of the "Elementsaber" archetype focus on sending copies of themselves to the GY to activate their various effects, which range from extending field presence to disrupting the opponent's field. Also, while in the GY, the "Elementsaber" monsters can temporarily change their Attributes to help facilitate the Summoning conditions of the "Elemental Lord" monsters.

It has to be mentioned right away that "Palace of the Elemental Lords", the archetypal Field Spell, is of paramount importance to any plays this archetype tries to achieve. First of all, the stat increasing effect is rather strong, reaching boosts up to ATK/DEF (with all six Attributes + DIVINE chosen for "Elementsabers" in the GY). Furthermore, it has a search effect, which allows the player to plus off it for the cost of the battle phase. And finally, it allows any "Elementsaber" effect to ditch cards from the deck instead of discarding them from the hand, which is crucial for all of the effects in the archetype as cards like "Elementsaber Lapauila Mana" are almost unplayable without it.

Playing around the Field Spell is both a blessing and a curse. With the Field Spell, the aforementioned "Elementsaber Lapauila Mana" not only summons itself for the cost of playing "Foolish Burial" twice, but the player can also decide which Attributes should be picked in order to protect the board. "Lapauila Mana" alone becomes quite a force with the "Palace of the Elemental Lords", since it also already boosts the board for ATK/DEF after it was summoned. The boost from "Palace of the Elemental Lords" is also very necessary for every other monster in the archetype: "Elementsaber Molehu", a ATK with a flip face-down Quick effect, and "Elementsaber Malo", a ATK "Foolish Burial" monster, are the biggest options stat-wise and are therefore both boosted to admirable stats aswell as not costing valueable hand cards when the Field Spell is involved. The other members are as follows: "Elementsaber Nalu", who can fetch back cards from the GY, "Elementsaber Makani", the archetypal searcher monster, "Elementsaber Aina", a "Monster Reborn" on legs, and "Elementsaber Lapauila", who can disrupt Spells and Traps. All these effects are formidable when the costs are paid from the deck, since "Elementsaber" need the GY-setup for their stats boosts aswell.

Without the Field Spell, things aren't quite as rosy as before. "Lapauila Mana", while useful for his board protection, forces you to go -2 in card economy and is basically a Level 6 Normal monster if he summoned other than through his effect. "Molehu" and "Malo" are the only passable beaters ATK-wise that can be Normal Summoned without Tribute, "Nalu's" effect basically switches one "Elementsaber" in hand against one in the Graveyard, "Makani's" effect is no longer a gain in card advantage, and while both "Aina" and "Lapauila" are still useful, they both suffer from having ATK and ATK respectively.

One cannot talk about "Elementsabers" without mentioning their respective bosses, the "Elemental Lords". All of these monsters are Level 8, have ATK and DEF and bring an effect which basically mimics another card in the game. They cannot be Normal Summoned, but they can be Special Summoned by having exactly five monsters of the right Attribute in the GY. Fortunately, this is where the second effect of the "Elementsabers" comes into play: By simply having five "Elementsabers" in the GY, one can switch them to whatever Attribute is necessary, technically allowing for the summon of every "Elemental Lord". Paradoxically, every "Elemental Lord" has an effect that states that the next Battle Phase is skipped if it leaves the field for whatever reason, which could cause you to lose the advantage or even the duel by your opponent displacing your own boss monster in whatever way imaginable. The question of which "Elemental Lords" should be played in the deck depends on what exactly is needed: Both "Pyrorex the Elemental Lord" and "Phosphorage the Elemental Lord" bring monster destruction in form of "Ring of Destruction" for added burn damage or a board-wipe "Raigeki"-style. "Moulinglacia the Elemental Lord" attacks the opposing resources directly by forcing the opponent to discard cards, "Windrose the Elemental Lord" brings a "Harpies Feather Duster" as an effect and "Grandsoil the Elemental Lord" revives a monster from the GY. Only "Umbramirage the Elemental Lord" seems a bit weaker with his search, but can still fetch some helpful "Elementsaber" monster if necessary.

For generic support, there are certain cards to consider. "Reasoning" can be helpful due to the "Elementsabers" sporting Level 2, 3, 4 and 6, but playing it also depends on the number of "Elemental Lords" in the deck, as every one of them increases the chance of filling the GY with potentially indespensable Spells and Traps only to show an "Elemental Lord" and putting all of it out of reach. "Terraforming" and "Metaverse" are important to get "Palace of the Elemental Lords" as consistently as possible. "Reinforcement of the Army" can search for any "Elementsaber" monster, and due to the Attribute-changing effect of "Elementsabers" cards like "Salvage" can be used to get card advantage. "Trade-In" is a potent spell for card draw, since every "Elemental Lord" can be used for it. Combine that with "Nalu", who has the ability to get them back to the hand.

Monster-wise, there is also a number of options to talk about. The Attribute-changing effect makes them compatible with "Chaos" cards like "Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning", "Chaos Dragon Levianeer" and "Chaos Emperor Dragon - Envoy of the End". By the same token, "Dark Armed Dragon" can be used for swift board control. "Elemental Grace Doriado" can also find a place in this deck: The Attribute requirements are easy to fulfill for "Elementsabers" and with the Field Spell having enough ammunition for her effect should also pose no big issue. A small "Invoked" engine of multiple "Aleister the Invoker" and one "Invocation" can use the varied Attributes in GY to summon whatever the player needs at the time. Finally, "Isolde, Two Tales of the Noble Knights" is as good in "Elementsabers" as she is in any other Warrior deck.

Recommended cards[edit]

Weaknesses[edit]

  • First of all, "Elementsabers" are quite bricky and have no easy outs when drawing badly. If the opponent has options to further worsen the situation for the "Elementsaber" player, either by forcing the player to discard hand cards or by playing an appropriate floodgate, "Elementsabers" will struggle to make a comeback.
  • Like many other Yugioh archetypes, "Elementsabers" are weak to Summon negation like "Solemn Judgment" or "Solemn Warning".
  • Pre-"Lapauila Mana" boards also suffer from being weak against board-wipes and single target monster removal, which could be anything from "Dark Hole" and "Raigeki" to "Castel, the Skyblaster Musketeer" and "Number Silent Honor ARK".
  • Since the "Elementsaber" gimmick is changing their own Attribute in the GY, any card that manipulates that cards enter the Graveyard will be effective; examples include, but are not limited to, "Macro Cosmos", "Dimensional Fissure" or "D.D. Crow".
  • Furthermore, "Elementsabers" can be critically hurt by destroying their Field Spell "Palace of the Elemental Lords" via cards like "Mystical Space Typhoon", "Twin Twisters" or "Heavy Storm Duster". However, they do have "Elemental Training" as protection which should keep most single-use destruction cards in check.

people have seen enough of president joe biden and his administration’s bumbling over the afghan withdrawal and now want him to resign.

in the latest shocking display of the president’s polling free fall, the latest rasmussen reports survey found that a majority, 52%, wants biden to resign over the withdrawal alone. just 39% disagrees, far short of his political base.

but, as other polls have shown, likely voters surveyed do not want vice president kamala harris to step in, viewing her as unqualified.

the data, shared in advance with secrets, twins with the president’s weekly job approval rating, which also shows that the nation, for now, has given up on the aging president who sometimes appears fumbling.

biden’s approval rating is also plummeting and sits about where former president donald trump’s approval-disapproval rating had sunk to at this stage in his presidency.

the president’s scrambling to defend the withdrawal and turn the public’s attention to other issues has flopped, according to the survey.

rasmussen revealed 60% of voters agree with a statement last week by south carolina republican sen. lindsey graham: “i think joe biden deserves to be impeached because he’s abandoned thousands of afghans who fought with us and he’s going to abandon some american citizens because he capitulated to the taliban to a 31 august deadline.”

while some have talked about the i-word, georgia rep. marjorie taylor greene has introduced a package to impeach biden. she reiterated her call after the withdrawal went south, saying, "it’s time for congress to hold this administration accountable. joe biden must be impeached. immediately."

lucky for biden, his lifeline appears to be his vice president and her even worse standing with the public.

rasmussen found — again, as other polls have — that most do not think the former california senator is up to the job.

only 38% said she is “qualified” to be president, while a sizable 58% said she isn’t. and 47% said she is “not at all qualified,” the lowest rating in the poll.
